Generally these include normally-heavy-traffic roads, but late at night. An hour or 2 at least after rush hour and NO ONE is out there, not even the cops.

I am going to contradict what everone here is saying. I LOVE MY BELTRONICS RX65!!!

It has saved me many times over in the 7 months i have had it and i have not had any problems. If you go to the comparison webistes it is right there with the V1 and costs a little less. I have found it easy to use and like it alot.

I would say it can give about a couple mile warning on a highway at times and i would not trade it in for a V1 and it does everything the V1 can.

And for all you non-working types, consider this - not everyone works 9 to 5.

Best place to stretch your car's legs is on the racetrack. Do your high-speed runs there. No need to worry about someone else you believe isn't supposed to be there, and no need to worry about the officer with his radar gun pointed at you.

And for the record - I don't drive like a granny on public roads - I wil go 10 mph or so over the limit on highways. But you see - at 10mph over the limit, the chances of getting pulled over are minimal, especially if there's some bozo beside me doing 20 over the limit.

I also have the Beltronics RX65 and I love it! Its ease of use is so much better then the V1's from what i've heard

whats so hard to use on a V1 you stick it on the dash and it beeps when theres a cop. It even points what direction, if you listen to the differnet beeping sounds you can differentiate between a false and real signal

I'd be careful, radar detectors are illegal in Virginia. Troopers also have radar detector detectors. My impression is that Virginia troopers are a pain in the *** about this. (I'm a Virginian but don't live there now.)

 

Andial - no BS here. And I did say 10 or so. (To clarify - that would mean 10-15 over). But I'd say 80% of the time, I'm at around 10mph over, especially in a 65mph zone.

Seriously - on the highway, I'll go 75 in a 65 zone, or 70 in a 55. I may dip up a little higher if I'm not paying attention to the speedo, and then back down, but that's about where I keep it. I have a decent job where they don't yell at you if you're 10-15 minutes late, which is probably a big reason why I don't speed to work.

Also: there is no thrill for me of doing 80, 90, or even 100 anymore on the highway. On the track, I'll hit 120-135 on the straights, and in some turns, I'm over 100. For example: at The Glen, I'll start at the bottom of the Esses at around 80mph, and hit 120 (top of fourth) at turn 4, and get up to 135+ on the back straight. Or at Lime Rock, I'll take the uphill turn in 4th, as well as the downhill. Can't tell you how fast I'm talking those turns (a little busy focusing on the turn itself) but I'm hustling around there pretty well. Talk about thrilling.

So yes, in general, I'll drive 10mph over the limit, and sometimes 15 or so over the limit. There's no need for me to go any faster to 'get my thrills' 'cause doing higher speeds on highways doesn't do it for me...

Jeff: I understand your point. But given the fact that speed limits on interstates and big highways have gone up in the past ten years to 65, even 75mph in some areas, I can't really see the need for driving more than 10-15 mph over the limit. And at 10/15mph over, there really is no reason to have a radar detector -- I've past by many a police officer at that rate, and they didn't even flinch.

Granted, our sports cars are magnets to radar guns and police, but slowing it down from 20 over to 10/15 over makes a difference.

I'm assuming here that we're all talking about highway type driving, and not urban/suburban areas.
