Winston-Salem fun run, March 25 (updated 03.21.07)
Are there any NC Rennlisters interested in a Sunday drive?
How does Sunday afternoon,March 25th sound for a run in the country?
A Celebration Fun Run is planned for the Piedmont Triad.
What are we celebrating?
March 11, Daylight Savings Time begins.
March 20 is the first day of Spring.
March 25, experiencing the thrill of warmer weather and the camaraderie of fellow P-car enthusiasts.
The route takes us to Hanging Rock State Park, to the top of Pilot Mountain, and back to the start.

I would love to do the run, unfortunately we are moving that weekend. Keep us updated if things change. Where is Pilot Mountain and Hanging Rock? If it is near Asheville, I may be able to break away for a bit.

If you have your calendar out, and are making plans, the PCA has an autocross planned for Asheville on May 26 @ the WNC Ag Center.

Some great roads up there guys, tons of twisty stuff and great views. The area is about 1 1/2hrs from Charlotte, about 1hr from G'boro, about 1/2hr from Winston Salem.

Dave, It'll be good to have you join us.
A couple of roads I'm considering in Stokes County are Edwards Road, leaving Rural Hall. 20+ turns in 3 miles.
Payne Road - Bolejack Road - NC 8 - Mountain Road - back on NC 8.
Leaving Hanging Rock, is NC 66 between Moores Spring Road and NC 268 (40+- turns in 4 miles).
Any other Stokes County roads you might suggest?

Well I hope there won't be any issue with me driving the rocco. It is German after all, right down to the last of the 1800lbs and 16valves to the tips of the 5pt harness.

No issue here.
Just left the PCA crowd after the monthly meeting. Several more P-cars, new and old will be driving too.

Hey, heres a copy of my responce to the sister thread in off topic, I just now found this thread... shows how observant I am
Edwards , I know that one like the back of my hand although its a little rough. I know of a few roads out in stokes, none quite like deals gap though... and most are in similar condition to Edwards, a little rough and rugged. Most of the roads around hanging rock are decently fun. I like going way up 8 and 66 both. They're both pretty well paved and once you get up a ways they both have some pretty fun sections especially 66 just before you get to 268 starting around Moores Spring/Hanging Rock State Park rd like you said.
I would do Edwards, Payne, then a left onto Friendship. Follow Friendship past Mountain View and turn right onto Hawkin rd. Then follow that to Flat Shoals and take a left. only stay on flat shoals for a mile or 2 and youll run into a fun little road alot like edwards called Young rd on the right. Albeit a little rough its fun. Young will drop you back out onto 8 just a bit before 8 hits/merges with 89.
There are quite a few more little roads like Edwards or Young but most of them are out of the way and not worth the few fun turns they have. But anyways id go around Hanging Rock on Moore Springs and hit up 66 till 268 and follow that to Pilot Mountain like you said. Overall a pretty fun loop with a good mix of tight and more stretched out twisties. Not quite like going up to Boone around the Blue Ridge and highway 194. If you ever make a drive up to Boone I would highly recomend 194. Just be aware of the sudden double swithchback that drops a good 2-3 stories in 2 turns that you can hit at much over 20...

Kell, thanks for the road info. I've changed the route incorporating your suggested roads.
Everyone, any interest in adding a poker run to this afternoon trip?

8744S, yes your friend is welcome. Everyone (drivers and navigators) will be asked to sign the traditional PCA waiver. I'll post directions to the meet as we get closer to the date.
FWIW, several Charlotte guys are coming, you may want to meet in Charlotte and drive on up as a group. Big Shotz is an easy hour's drive from Charlotte. just off I-40, west of Winston. Speed limit on I-40 from Statesville - Clemmons is 70.
