FYI, I was able to install late style inner door handles (release) on an early car door panel with just a little exacto knife trimming on the rear side. These look so much better than the decaying plastic-look of the early ones.
This would be a cool thread.....what post 85.5 parts update the early interior.....
Then exterior.
What minor fitting is required (cutting, hole drilling etc..)
For the first one I took the door panel off, bolted on the new pull and put the panel back on. The panel binds on the round part of the pull (the aft end). I had to trim away maybe 3/16 behind the handle radius to gain enough clearance (enough so the handle can work freely). Then put the exterior cover and done. With the second one, I found that it can be done without removing the door panel - you just have to trim before trying to install the new handle in order to gain access to the lower mount screw.
