Yet another phonie restoration question...
On the flat part of the outer lip just where the stick-on wheel weights go there's a small surface "gauge" in the surface. (maybe 1/64th deep at most) What can I do about it? Would a wet sand with a courser paper, then up thru the grits suffice? Then of course a polish...
I plan on doing the same as our friend near Montreal did on his white S2. For those who don't know, he super-polished the outer edge and lip and blackened the phone dial centre, then proceeded to add coloured crested caps which he also painted black around, leaving the coloured emblem only showing. Looks very good.
Ideas gents?

Actually both... I have a couple of gouges in mine from the PO but always thought they would have to be filled in somehow. My wheels need attention and I'd hoped to do something about it this year.

If you're going to paint over the area with the gouge, you could just fill it in with something, e.g. bondo for aluminum. But if the gouge is in an area you want to polish, I can't think of any other (practical) way than stated above.

I did have some gauge in mine and I was lucky that they were in the part that I painted black. They were more like small pin holes, I clean them up as best as I could with a dremel and a small brush and then painted over it. You have to look very very close to see them.
If they are in the polished part then I wouldn't know what to do. I remember seeing a thread about using some form of bondo on them, sanding then painting but they were not polished.

Watch for the thread in the spring, I'll be sure to post before, during and after pics. Its a bit cold right now to do, as we just got another foot and a half of snow last night. Total since the 6th of Feb @ 175 cm.
Glad I bought a brand new snow blower before mas.
