Default Battery quick disconnect system - anyone use it?

Considering the frequency that I (and I assume many of you) disconnect the battery to perform various maintenance duties on the car, I am considering a tool-less method of removing the battery cables from the battery itself.

I know some race cars use these quick disconnects, and was wondering if anyone here has installed these on their car? It seems like a slick way to disconnect the battery cables without having to grab a wrench. You simply pull the connectors apart -- done.

These are 4AWG (each), what does that mean?

My friends use marine grade circuit breakers put inline with the positive battery cable.

All you need to do is press the red button and it opens the connection. They are available in 50-150amp ranges. I really dont know if these are the best solution, but they work well for those who i know that use them.

Ah. So it appears as though the disconnects will accept up to 4 gauge wires. I'm not sure if 4 gauge is heavy enough. Seems as though I've seen people replace battery cables with 0-2 gauge. I'll have to do some more research, I know it's been discussed here before.

That's kinda cool for cutting the power. I was thinking more in line of the disconnects I pictured above though, so I could not only cut the power but also remove the battery without having to use a wrench on the battery terminals. Thanks though!

I've got a $4 battery disconect from Wal-Mart on my 951. You can find them in the battery department. All you do is spin a *** and the power is cut.

I guess I'm more interested in not only cutting power, but also being able to pull the battery out without having to grab tools...just pull the quick-connect apart, undo the thumb-bolt on the hold down, and pull the battery out.
