Default Bad MAF?

So I drove to chicago yesterday (300 miles roundtrip) and my car was doing great the entire time up until about 10 minutes from my house. Whenever I would step on the gas more than about halfway it would bog for a second or two and then go. I thought maybe the car had just been running for a while and maybe it would be better in the morning. I drove it today and it has gotten even worse. Now if you push it down more than about 5% of the way it will completely bog and won't even start going after a few seconds. You can push the pedal to the floor and it will do nothing. While idleing I unplugged the MAF and it didn't seem to make much of a difference and the car still wouldn't rev. So I'm starting to think that it's a bad MAF...Anyone ever have similar problems??

My car is an 87 924S.

Thanks!

I was thinking that too. I unplugged it and it made the idle run higher, still bogged though.

TPS is just a 2 postion switch on 24's and 44's. Sounds more like the j-boot has a crack in it.

If you can get to speed and higher rpm slowly I would check the fuel filter. Look for vac leaks first though if it won't rev at all. My 86 had the same problem except I could nurse it to speed and cruise, and heavy foot resulted in the bogging no matter what speed I was going. It was probably from a low bulk tank at the gas station sucking up sediments.

Check that the MAF is getting power.
Check DME relay.

That sounds about like it. It would very slowly get up to speed, but got worse as I drove it more, meaning it would bog with less pressure on the gas. I did run it pretty low on gas last night and that's what I initially thought it was, so I put in gas and it kept doing it.

Where is the fuel filter? Thanks!

The filter is up under the car in the back on the trans mount.

Anyways to test the filter before I go and buy a new one? Also, there are two listed, one comes with fittings, the other doesn't..which should I get? Thanks!

If you don't know the history and mileage on the filter I would replace it anyway. Once they start to act up they never fix themselves. My 86 had threaded fittings that are a bitch to get to. I would think that a filter without threaded fittings would require you to cut your $$$ hoses and use hose clamps which is a bad idea IMO since you are pumping at 35 psi after the pump. Yours is the 2nd filter down.

You should still look for vac leaks while waiting for the filter. You realize there is also an inlet filter right at the tank? This one is supposed to catch larger sediment and usually won't clog up on a plastic tank. Does the 944S have the steel tank like the early cars? If so you might have a big load of rust that forms from condensation on the inner roof of the tank and falls onto the bottom as small plates.
