Default Optima battery install

I know it's been covered before, but I'd like to hear/see different options for mounting an Optima red top on it's side. Needs to be secure to pass tech inspections for DEs and AutoX.

Thanks

I dont think that there is a cheap way to do it. I thought I saw one of the vendors selling fancy billet mounts for them. Thats why I went with a regular battery. A lot easier to deal with.

Not necessarily looking for cheap, just proper and hopefully easy.

Just go with one of these batteries, its the same as a red top except its made for our 944's and fits.

Nope, sorry that is incorrect. The Optima is a dry cell sealed battery and the Interstate is a standard wet cell, vented battery. The difference is that you can mount the Optima on its side and the vented batteries can leak on the track. I had problems with an Interstate such as the one in your picture, spilling acid all over due to the high lateral loads on the track. Had to go to a dry cell - I went with an Odyssey. I highly recommend going with a sealed battery on the track.

yeah, weight was not a concern for the track, the car is a pig as it is. i needed something new, and preferable sealed, and some of the generic alternatives didn't appeal to me. the optima seemed the way to go and i need to it sit properly. i'll probably end up modifying something generic from the parts store.
