Arrow Dash speaker area on 924S???

Has anyone mounted anything here, pictures?

I'm thinking about tearing the speaker grate off and mounting my XM radio in that spot, but not if it's going to look like ***.

Let's see what you've got, pictures of what the area looks like sans grille, etc.

Thanks.

I was also wondering about this.
It's called a center speaker, but there is no speaker behind mine.
What's the deal with that?

It's just a carry over from the old 924's...used to be a speaker there, my friends 77 924 has one, but no door speakers IIRC....

I'm sure someone's put a tweeter in there with subs in the back, not what I'm looking to do, but photos are good all around.

I want to either mount my XM in that area and/or add an additional outlet there to power my XM/Radar detector.

After a recent cross country trip using a splitter off my cigarette lighter I realized how necessary multiple power outlets are!

I think it would be a great place to hide a small hand-gun, but that's just me... there's another place in in later cars that would be even better, but I wont throw that out in an open forum... :-)

You can always put gauges there like the 924 Carrera GT...

That's pretty cool, but you can't shoot people w/gauges... Oh God, I kill me.....

I always like the Porsche script door panels on those cars- the indentation part across the top strip. That center section might fit some other sort of stereo component too- like a screen of some sort or some sort of MP3 player, or even a GPS maybe...? I don't know actual measurements & I'm not big into the techo world, but I've seen those things up close & they should be large enough for something cool. I know that some people have suggested a center channel speaker, although I'm not sure how that would benefit someone in a car...?

Actually, if you just take the speaker grille off, there is hardly any space in that cavity. If you want to mount anything useful there, you must cut a hole in the dash material. IIRC there isn't anything behind the dash right there, so it should be OK to cut. Do it with a razor blade, and go slow, incase you start to hit whatever might be behind it. Don't use a sawzall.

Maybe you could rig up some kind of pop-up or pull out cup holder?

Be a good spot for a GPS screen, too.

I don't think that's stock since I don't have that in any of the CGT interior shots I have collected??

Years ago (before cars had stereos) in Car & Driver there was article about wiring that center speaker up w/the left and right speakers of an aftermarket system. The left and right 'hot' wires go to the center speaker and it provides some kinda sound "fill in". They didn't know how it worked, but I tried it and sure enough it did.

For someone with a nice multimedia system (Car PC for example) and Soundblaster Live! 5.1 portable sound card it's really very good place for center speaker.
My friend installed an LCD touchscreen there for his car PC. A bit doifferent approach, but looks pretty cool like it's stock

Ever since I popped the screen off and found nothing behind it I've been meaning to fiberglass some gauges into it. I might get around to it in spring time and I'll post some pics.
