Following the long-lived, long-loved, and well-used BMW chair that I constructed about two years ago, which was a friend-favorite, I decided to salute that one off to the junk pile (it was pretty decrepid) and construct a newer, better lounge chair.
This all happened after I was searching around for a pair of seats for my 951 projct car. It wasn't until after Jesse (jgporsche) donated his passenger seat that I found a great pair of cloth Porsche-script seats from another fellow member. After that point, I had an extra seat at my disposal... and I was hoping to create a Porsche replacement for my BMW 318i chair of old.
Today, I finally hauled it to work, went to Home Dept for lunch to snag a 6' section of 1"x1" steel box-stock. Well 20 minutes later, after a few cuts on the chopsaw, and some beads from the handy Miller MIG, I'm proud to present to you... the Porsche 944 Chair.
It's now going to live a long life, starting with duties including providing comfort while I read, relax, and study. Car guy friends can come have a beer in the coveted chair, while female friends can lounge upon it in various states of undress. It'll mature into a well-rounded garage chair, and I'm sure it will have brethren in the near future.
Here are a few pics of it... excuse the less-than-fashionable fabrication-wear in which I am clothed in the last picture.![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

I have some of those to! Actually a few of them, one 944 chair, and one E36 M3 LTW Chair. I still need to make an actual base for them though, just haven't gotten around to it.

nice, we've got an extra seat in our living room (I'm in college), but ours just sits on the sliders. It is arguably the most comfortable furniture in the house.
When you mount one to the office chairs what do you do about it being back heavy? i would be afraid to tip backwards.

Jim... that's forwaqrd-thinking. I'll get back to you on that ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Jesse... you are welcome to come over for a beer, and now that I just remembered, you needed my paint guy's number, so check your inbox in a few, and there will be a couple numbers in there for you. Beer's on me the first time you make it down here!![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)
Dan, you can mount it slightly forward on it's c.g. and tighten up the spring to make it not-so-easy to tilt.

Nice, but those unprotected legs are going to chew the crap out of your carpet. Home Despot must sell something that would fit in there. If not, get some old tennis *****, cut holes in them and slide them over the ends. That would add a certain je ne sais quoi!

Jesse, typical ODU guys drink Naty Light or Bud Light.
I prefer Guinness, St. Pauli Girl Special Dark, Killians, a good IPA, or a hefeweisen... to start my list of "regulars." If I'm broke a given week, I'll grab a 12 of Coors or Yuengling![Stick Out Tongue](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Peckster, I haven't finished the legs yet (they need paint). I'm thinking of different leg-ends currently, but for now, the chair isn't going to be moving, so the carpet will survive. The bottom structure is so solid, it doesn't deflect a millimeter when you sit on it. This engimineering degree is paying off! Haha
