Default Is there a cupholder market??

I've been working on making cupholders for a friend of mine's 944. Basically the design is taken from the back of the glovebox plastic. I then form the plastic so that the cup holders are about .5 in deeper, and then i put a small .5in ridge type rail around the top perimeter. This allows a drink to have a good 1-1.1in depth in the existing glovebox door. I will post pictures soon of what i mean. My question is, is there a market for these? If i were to maybe produce them on a larger scale with a mold and injected plastic, would any of you guys be interested in them? It would essentially be a brand new door backing (with the cupholders), sent to your door. I wouldn't have to take your existing glovebox backing and modify it, just send you a new one, you take your old on off, put the new one on. You could then proceed to use your glovebox door as normal, when your done with drinks, close it up. Thats my idea atleast! So, would anyone be interested in this production? It would be between 40$-50$ per door mainly because i don't have any fancy tools, just regular ones lol. Feel free to make any suggestions, what should i change, is it even a good idea? price reasonable? Thanks to all!!, especially Robby for the inspiration.

Also, it would be avaliable for both AB and Non AB gloveboxes, only difference is the AB glovebox backing will be plastic instead of your original metal backing, also that annoyying AB sticker would be gone, FOREVER

One thing I think would be the issue with having a cup holder built into the glovebox is that the angle of the dashboard would not allow you to have any tall drinks in the cupholders. I'd also want more than a inch tall lip holding my cup in place, seeing as they are porsches and make good turning forces. I also don't know if I would want the weight of the drinks resting on the open glovebox door. And then theres the fact that while the door is open the stuff in the glovebox can come flying out. Unless this is meant as a not-in-motion cupholder only?

But otherwise it sounds like a good idea.

lol, allthe stuff your sayying is true and ive thought of. I acctually wonder why anyone would want one in their glovebox? But there may be a few that just cruise on the HWY and want it perhaps? Maybe i can work some kind of lip so that your stuff doesn't fly out. It would be mostly for canned drinks. Anyone with big gulps might have to look elsewhere, but i doubt thatll be much of a problem. If anyone has the aluminum door hinges may be able to support atleast 10lbs total which is alot more than two cans. I guess this is just something that someone "must have" , while not very practical, it would be stealthy. Thanks for your opinion!

I think this is a more practical solution.

http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/

they talk about "car specific" models but there's no reason it shouldn't work in a 944. I've been meaning to try out the ones I bought for my 540 in the 951 but haven't had a chance.

No drinking allowed in my car except water out of a plastic bottle on long trips.

You will need to factor in the fragility of the original glovebox hinges. They are as delicate as the sunvisor hinges which have a tendency to break all the time!

true, this would be mostly for those with the aluminium hinge mod. Like i originally thought though, theres not much of a market for it. I was just wondering since i was already doing it for someone, if anyone else would ever be interested in it.

The fold out units that performance products sells are really cool. You bolt them to your door panel. The look great mostly because they're covered in leather.

I have one I bought at target for like 5 bux, slides in the top of the door panel where the window goes into, hangs into the interior. It does tend to get in the way at times however. I like the idea of those cupholders in that link shown earlier by ninefiveone.
