Question What would cause a clunking noise in front pass. wheel well?

Car is an early N/A, here are the symptoms:

The noise is an intermittant clunking similiar to a failing CV joint

It is definatly coming from the front right wheel area

Sound ONLY happens with car in motion at sub-5mph speeds

Applying brakes will put an immediate stop to it

Sound will happen turning or going strait

Here's what we have done thus far:

Installed new front wheel bearings

Made sure brake calipers were firmly attached

Balljoints are brand new

Control arm bushings front/rear are brand new

Swaybar bushings are new

This is driving us nuts - anyone have any clues?

Packed well with Mobile 28

Races are not new, but looked/felt good - not pitted or anything.

Noise did not change AT ALL when I changed the bearings.

This is kinda odd. My car had some clunking up front like yours but only when turning and going slow. I had been working on the front spoiler and didn't put back in all the bolts or the metal support. Everything was clear when parked and it didn't make a noise when at speed. When I put all the bolts back and the supports the clunking seemed to shortly go away. I never did figure out what was clunking (it was not rubbing) and I am not sure if what I did fixed it or if it just magically went away.

Have you checked all suspension bushings in A-arm, and that all bolts are tightened well, especially the two bolts and nuts that attach the bottom of the strut to the spindle. I know on the cars with adjustable shocks the ecentric bolt that adjusts camber on the bottom of the strut can come loose and make a clunking sound as it moves back and forth a 1/2" or so. What about the 4 crossmember bolts? I have had one od those back out on me. Locktight is my friend now!

Will it do it when the car is on stands and you rotate the wheel?

Not sure if this helps or not, but my car made a clunking noise and found out that both my front shocks were bad. I could lift the car up and it'd stay up, or push it down and it'd stay down. Had my own ride height kit

How about the sway bar bushing on the pass side. It tends to swell up if you have a power steering leak. The fluid swells the bushings up and they deterioate.

Sway bushings are brand new as are all the shocks and the top strut mounts. I am leaning towards loose strut hardware, I'' be sure to post my findings.......

brake pads moving against the rotor in turns. Usually from worn/missing anti-rattle clips or aftermarket pads that don't fit tight enough.

I'd deffinately lean towards loose hardware. I had my swaybar bushing collar loosen up and would clunk when there was any change in the body roll

I used some poly bushing for the rear of arm and they make a clunking sound when they move at low speeds. The new bushings?
