Default cruise control

So my cruise control has a mind of its own and hunts for the speed it is set at (if it will set) and will actually turn itself on full throttle sometimes (I say that is actually the spirit of the car. It's like Ricky Bobby, "I wanna go fast.")

So I imagine I need to replace the "cruise control brain/computer."

1. There was a linear throttle cam (the one that is round, w/o the arm, for faster response) in the glovebox of the car when I bought it. I don't know why someone would buy one and not use it. I installed it and I like it. Can any cruise control computer operate correctly with this cam installed?

2. Are the brains early/late, or what? Am I going to have to find a 1989 8v NA specific one or something?

3. Where exactly is this thing?!

4. The pedal moves when I attempt to use the CC. The stalk appears to operate normally. Is there anything else I need to consider that could be broken?

5. If one from 1989 w/ 153k miles is malfunctioning, what kind of year/mileage are we looking at that will actually work?

Actually, I came across this on rennbay tutorials:

That sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing. I would have HATED to have replaced my CC brain and it still not work. I'm definitely going to try this!

Please read the Clark's Garage Shop Manual. They desribe the problem and possible fixes. As does a search of this and the 951 technical board. Note they all fail. No sense in trying to find a "good" onde.

When the cruise accelerates when you set it, it will liklely settle after 20-30 mph more. Try setting at 40 mph and watch it settle on 60-75 mph. At least mine does. I have given up trying to fix it. It does work better the hotter it is.
