Default Dead Gauges

So I've fixed my no start issue and it's time to move onto something else:

Dead Gauges, thats right folks thats what started this whole strange project causing me to inflict the no start issue on myself and giving myself more grey hair.

The dead gauges began right after installing the headlight wiring kit from Rennbay. The first time I fired it up after installing the headlight kit I noticed I had no gauges and the aftermarket alarm kept chirping. I de-installed the alarm ( it was annoying!!) and still have no gauges.

What I've done so far:
Removed gauge cluster and cleaned all contacts.
Cleaned all ground contacts under the dash and in the engine compartment.
Changed fuse 18 with a known good fuse.

Still no gauges.

Thoughts and suggestion please...

My best,
Mike D.

All of your gauges? It's been said the tach and boost gauge have a 3 prong red connector up high by the glove box that's easy to miss. I havent found it on my car though.

Yupp all of the gauges. I found that red connector and it looks fine. If the wiring at the Alternator is loose would that cause this?

Hey Mark no pic but I'll grab one tomorrow and post it up. I'm guessing I knocked something loose under the hood while installing the headlight harness. Anyone know if the alternator hookup links back to the gauges and could cause this? I'm thinking I may not have tightened the harness connection to the alternator correctly. I'm hoping that someon can chime in with a been there done that before I dig in to the alternator again.

My best,
Mike D.

mike, try swapping out the terminal 15 relay [second relay, first row closest to the fender] with either the fog light relay [first relay, third row] or the horn relay [third relay, third row]. they are all the same part [141 951 253 B].

Found it... one of the smaller 12V leads at the battery was loose. After 3 weeks of looking for a "big" issue I looked at small obvious stuff I should have paid attention to in the first place. I feel stupid, but now I can button up the interior and go for a ride!!

Mark I haven't forgotten your pic I can't locate the digital camera. The wife has hidden it on me after I...well never mind. As soon as I get the camera back. If it helps the three wire connector was in the passenger footwell behind the carpet at the kickpanel close to the door.

My best,
Mike D.

Mike D.

I pulled the carpet back and there was no connection. I'm going to need to see a pic when you or someone else can get a chance to post one.
