Default Where do you guys buy freeze plugs??

This is the 3rd time I've bought freeze plugs (first Autozone, NAPA, then Carquest) and every "32mm" freeze plug is actually a 1 1/4" freeze plug which is a hair too small to use with our heads..

I need one ASAP, has anyone bought one from a local parts store with that was actually 32mm?? If so part #?

thanks!
Mike

Best explained here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeze_plug

Basically they are those pressed in "cups" on the front/back of the cylinder head and in the block. They are supposed to pop out if the block/head is frozen to prevent the engine from being damaged. I was also told they that is were they pour the Alum. when casting the head.

My understanding is that it is plug fit into the engine block that is designed to break loose should the coolant freeze and expand, thereby relieving the built up pressure and save the block from freeze damage. They can also be removed to allow all coolant to be drained when draining coolant system.

They are part # 900 036 005 02

I'd rather NOT wait a week (+ drive 2 hrs) for the porsche dealer to get these... anyone else ever buy these locally??

Hey, thanks for the links but for some reason that site doesnt work on my computer

Paragon does not show one when I search or use part # search. Pelican has them @ $1.60 but they take awhile to ship. I'll give zims a call and see what they can do for me.

call (828) 766-9280 for 928 specialists, they are great people. If they have the part in hand they will get it to you. It is listed for $1.60 on their site

We are talking about the 2 in the cylinder head, right?... there aren't any other ones?

If so, I would hit up a local engine rebuilder. When I had my cylinder head done they replaced both freeze plugs, one with a special plug they use that shows if the engine has been overheated (for warranty purposes).
They must be 32mm, because they have stayed in just fine.

Sunset Porsche in Portland, OR also stocks them and specialize in mail order. Great prices on top of that, cost +15%.
