Default releasing the torque tube from the engine

I am having a hard time seperating the tube from the engine. I took the four bolts out that connect the two, now what?

Get a screw driver in there and widen the gap, keep moving around the edges to keep it even. It should not be very difficult, just light prying with a screw driver or pry bar.

Thanks Mike. I have really been prying with a bar, thought there was a pin or something. Maybe if I pry from two sides at once.

Make sure you've got the engine suspended with a good hoist and balance bar then just rock it a bit :-) As you slide the engine forward keep eyeballing the angle the engine comes out relative to the drive shaft coming from the torque tube. You took the radiator out first, right? Just to give you enough front clearance. I need a lot of front clearance to get it out without scraping too many valuable parts.

Na, it is all sitting on the ground. Ala Mike, I pulled the shell up and off of the engine, trans, and torque

I still can't pull the two apart. I might just hook one end to the truck and use a come along to pull them apart. This is frutstrating. Anyone want the bottom 1/2 of an engine out of an 89 na + a connected torque tube? I'll let them go cheap;-)

Good question, IIRC there is a secondary release on the automatics you need to release.

You have to unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel through the starter hole.
You will have to turn the engine over to get to all of the bolts - there are 8, I believe - they are hex I think.
Then, leave the torque tube bolted to the bellhousing, and unbolt the bellhousing from the back of the engine.

This leaves the bellhousing and pressure plate attached to the torque tube.

hahaha, no, I dont. Thanks though. Let me know if you pick up a 944S parts car though and I'll take the engine off your hands.

dang, nope, I done good though, 86 turbo and an 83 na w/lsd. The lsd was a nice surprise. Think I will keep the 83 for ****s and giggles and part the turbo. Have to finish parting an 85.5 that's in the garage. Fun fun

I just did a torque tube on an automatic. There is a coupler very much like the one from the TT to the trans. you undo one 8mm Allen head through an inspection hole then it all slides apart. You turn the engine over until you seee the allan head looking straight down at you. I had the same problem and learned this the hard way BUT IT IS THE CURE AND IT IS THERE TO UNDO. Good Luck!
