Default sunroof seal not fitting

My sunroof seal doesn't fit right...

is there anyway to trim it or heat it in an oven so that it can be used?

I just installed a new seal... It will indeed be just a touch long. I trimmed mine back maybe an inch or so. Just be sure to leave it as long as possible as the rubber may shrink just a tiny bit over time.

yeah bake it in the oven 400 degrees for 25 minutes......

just kidding, if it's too thick then it might be the wrong seal? I just ordered a new seal because my old one is too thick so hopefully this new one will be the correct thickness.

PM sent. There was a seal and edging change in mid 88 to new part numbers so maybe you have the wrong one on there.

From 83 to early 88 they used:
seal - 944 564 114 01
edging - 944 564 621 00

From mid 88 on the parts numbers are:
seal - 944 564 114 041
edging - 944 564 623 00

I have an early car with what i am pretty sure is a early seal. The roof does not close all the way with the new seal, but it does seal enough to keep the water out.

the deal is that a new seal is really soft and pliable and will form to the exact space that your sunroof has between the roof and the panel, if you get a a replacement panel like I did or adjust the space then the old seal, having hardened over time, will not fit correctly... so my question is, is there a way to soften it up so that it will reform to the new space around my panel so I dont have to get a new one...

the issue is that the seals harden over time, not the part #'s (in my case at least)

My seal meets in the middle of the rear of the sunroof (tail side of car). It provides a good seal, but sometimes when I pop up the sunroof (electric) the seal pulls off and dangles there and then I have to reach back and tuck it back up. Does anyone have advice for this situation. I don't think it is supposed to be glued down. Should I take it off and make the seal seam meet in the front? Should I get a new seal? Please give me your thoughts if you have any experience with this situation?
