How are your upper strut mounts? This would be a good time to replace them if they're shot, but they aren't cheap. Same goes for castor blocks. Also a good time to inspect the front control arm bushing and sway bar bushings. With new suspension components, you may end up feeling things that you couldn't feel before.

You might want to replace all the lock nuts up front, they're not meant to be reused. There's two on the strut mounting plate where it attaches to the spindle, and one each on the front and rear control arm mounts. (I think some of the older cars used a lock washer on that rear mount, so it would have a standard re-usable nut.)

Make sure they torque everything to specs, especially if the mechanic has big 'ole gorilla arms. Some of those fasteners aren't supposed to be torqued down crazy tight.

I didn't like the price of the Porsche strut mounts either. Paragon has an aluminum replacement for much less. Check them out. I've found that turn-ins are very sharp and precise.

i am a suspension noob and have a few questions for the gods out there. all questions relate to a daily driver that may one day see a track.

i plan to do a similar suspension upgrade as vwvortex123 except that i would use the koni sports sold by paragon (are their quoted prices cheap or am i missing something?). i'll also get some new lock nuts as recommended by shiners780. besides the items already mentioned in this thread, are there any other components that i should replace?

any help is greatly appreciated.

I thought you were putting 951 brakes and calipers on (hence your various posts and PM's about spindles). If that is the case, your stock struts won't bolt to the 86 951 spindles. You would need 951 struts or 87-onward 944 struts, which take different inserts.

KYB strut inserts in Tenacious_G's 86 NA are fine. Also think Xsboost90 has used them in the past with no issues.

Congrats on your new parts, I'm sure you'll love the feel of new shocks. Also do a visual inspection of the parts "shiners780" mentioned.
