Clutch re-assembly stage - can't push torque tube back in to clutch!

OK, finally got the new clutch in but, after getting the clutch housing on, the driveshaft (in the torque tube) won't push in to the clutch. Here's what I did:
- Rotated the torque tube back to normal orientation
- Pushed torque tube toward front of car
- Driveshaft in torque tube lines up with clutch housing, but stops before driveshaft splines mesh with clutch splines. From the rear, I can rotate the driveshaft by hand but I can hear the sets of splines touching each other.
Do people have any tricks or suggestions on how to get the driveshaft to push into the clutch?

just done one too, you have to lineup real good, the drive shaft is probably trying to get into the pivot bearing (is there about an inch to go?) I did mine the other way though, engine out, so I had to raise TT and align engine to get it back in, from what I gather there is no room for a margin, wiggle and cuss and it will get there

When I did mine, the tube stopped about a half inch from being all the way in. I just depressed the clutch, and the tube went forward with no problems. You may be hanging up a little on the pilot bearing, which is what happened to me.
BTW, if you are this far, the rest of the job is a piece of cake from here...

Thanks for the feedback thus far, everybody. Update: the splines on the clutch side seem to be angled upward a few degrees. In other words, when I re-insert the alignment tool, it doesn't appear to be perpendicular to the area around the clutch housing. This is strange because it all looked correct as we bolted the flywheel, clutch, & pressure plate on. Has anyone seen this?
Ed - I'm not quite to that stage yet - I'd love to only have a half inch remaining since the splines haven't meshed up at all - can't wait til this is hooked in so I can get to the piece of cake parts![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Tom - I used the alignment tool when I bolted on the pressure plate & clutch to the flywheel. At that point, everything looked great, but now it doesn't seem to want to line up with the driveshaft.
Good times. We're removing the housing again as I type this...

Success! (for now)
Quick update: We loosened the clutch housing cover (the one with four 19mm bolts) and the driveshaft splines slid right into the clutch splines. For some reason, when the bolts on the housing were tightened to their 54 ft-lb spec, there was an alignment issue. Thanks for all the quick feedback!
On to the transmission...

You may have to put a jack under the engine to raise it just a smidge to improve the angle and releave the pressure that's keeping it from popping in. Even though it may seem that everything is lined up you could be off a touch.

I remember having to jack the engine up and down a bit to get the splines to engage...
My clutch job worst points were when the release arm pivot shaft wouldn't come out of the belhousing. So I tried to remove the pressure plate bolts through the starter hole. Then the last pressure plate bolt head stripped... Clutch jobs are sooo fun.

If there is a small alignment problem, you can just bolt the slave cylinder in, and depress the clutch pedal.
THis releases the disc and usually things go very smoothly at this point.
I've had to use that trick a time or two, even with the alignment tool.
