Default Back at it- NA this time...

Well, I finally replaced the 88 turbo...

With a Slate Grey Metallic 1985.5 944NA with black/tan interior. It's frightening, really- it's literally a cross between my '83 NA and the '88 turbo- it's even halfway between year-wise.

Nicely optioned- Limited-slip, plus front and rear anti-sway bars. Basically brand-new interior black carpet set, so the interior's not quite stock...

It needs a moderate amount of cosmetic stuff, but it's all pretty minor, and shouldn't be too much. This will again be a daily driver, so I'm leaning more towards the comfort side of things this time around. I forgot quite how much more low-end grunt the NAs have over the turbos- this thing feels much better in-town than the turbo ever did. Not quite the same on the highway, though... I do miss my extra hundred or so horsepower at times.

Sorry for the crappy camera-phone picture at the moment, but I'll do better once I have access to a real camera.

Thanks!

I'm really hoping that's it, rather than "Three strikes and you're out"...

Nice, wish the circumstances had been better, but you've had 3 great-looking cars!

I checked one out in Chicago- Loved the 914 as a model, hated the particular one I found (too many things wrong). Mainly, I decided that a 914 in good enough shape to be a reliable daily driver was going to deserve better treatment than I'd be giving it (namely, a garage). The 944s have the galvanized body panels and heavy undercoating that makes me not worry so much about rust, too.

I just couldn't do a 914 justice. Also, the 944s are just more comfortable for everyday driving.

Thats nice. I love slate grey metallic on these cars. Does it have cookie cutters on it? I didn't think those came on 85.5 cars. If so, interesting spec with sways, LSD, and cookies.

(then again they could be fuchs and the photo just doesn't bear that out...........)

Oh, if only they were Fuchs... Nope, cookie cutters it is. I'm actually thinking about using the cutters as winter wheels, and trying to find a set of the early offset fuchs for general use.

And yeah, it's a bit of an odd option set- the LSD and sways seem more likely to come with a better-optioned car, but the cookie cutters are about the least desirable of the wheels...

Yep. It'd been listed for a while, so the price came down to what I thought was very reasonable.

87944Turbo and SamGrant951 bought the salvage off me, so if you need any parts you could get out of an 88 turbo, drop them a line!
