Default Steering Wheel

I was just wondering if the 944 steering wheel with the airbag is bigger than the one without the airbag. My new car has the airbag and I am feeling like it is bigger than my old one. Anybody know?

Also how easy is it to replace the wheel with a non-airbag wheel?

Couldn't tell you about the size difference, but if you're tall like me (6'4") the airbag wheel does come pretty close to your right leg. It's not hard to go to a smaller aftermarket wheel, just search posts on disabling the air bag sensors. I'm seriously considering a Momo wheel with a spacer like I used on the 911, made a huge difference. Would be courious if others here have had this set up on the 944?

Get a 968CS wheel, and you will be more than happy.

Look at http://www.944s2.com/ for pretty good instructions on disabling the airbags.

The replacement part is easy, the retention of a functional horn button is somewhat of a PITA. At least it was for me when I installed my Momo wheel.

In the attached pic, you'll see a part circled in green. My airbag car (all airbag cars?) did not have this part, which contacts the momo hub adapter and transmits power to your horn. You have to either source the part (928-652-104-00) and drill your assembly to set it up correctly or you can source the entire assembly pictured (i.e. from a non-airbag car) and install the non-airbag assembly on your car. Even if you drill your assembly and install the 928 part, you may find , as I did, that your turn signals no longer cancel automatically. Then you must also decide on how to disable your airbag warning light. I choose method 2 from the 944s2 site. Who knew installing a steering wheel could be so much fun!

I have never heard of this, any pics?

I use a Momo (350mm Tuner)/Momo hub and a 11/2 inch spacer(quick release/Snap Off/thanks Spazegun). I am 6'3 and the addition of the spacer made it a perfect fit for me in my 944.

I am not tall so not worried about the room. Just want a good feeling wheel. I was toying around with replacing the wheel in my 944S bit it wasn't that bad. I am not in love with the airbag wheel so looking for alternatives.
