Default Would a line-x interior be totally off the wall?

Since im on the topic off "different" ideas for interiors tonight, what about Line-X instead of carpet? About the same weight, more durable, easy to mantain, unique, nice looking (If done correctly)

What do you guys think? I might not be interested fof myself but it is certainly an interesting Idea.

I have wondered how that would work as a reinforcement for these horrible dash caps. I have also contemplated doing my jeep exterior in it, but the whole interior might be too industrial for my taste on this car. Very cool stuff though.

I wonder if testarossa could PS some kind of simple bump-map onto the interior just as a rough view..? Maybe that wouldnt work.

One of my only thoughs is that the area where the console meets the metal might not look proper. Maybe if you cut the carpet shorter and sewed some upholstery trim onto it...

You could do the headliner as well im sure, and the might be really cool.

It would be hard to keep clean (dust etc.), unless you plan to hose out your interior :-)

I wonder if you could strip the vinyl off a cracked dash, sand it down, fill in the holes with some body filler, and have it lin-xed with the fine kind that doesnt look like cottage cheese? LOL maybe im taking this a bit too far.

I would only imagine it for a track car....and then I would stop imagining because you want to loose weight not gain it.

Idk right now my carpet is burgundy and line-x wouldn't cost too much more than a good looking black carpet set i bet... Its already stripped down to the metal under the carpet.... hmmmmmm

Maybe its worth a try? I can always put my carpet back in and say I did it for sound deadening if anyone asks..

Just for kicks Im going to swing by the linex place tomarrow and see what kind of finishes they can do.

Im just full of ideas tonight!

I can think of a few good reasons, but im not saying its a good idea, just an idea thats worth investigating.

Waterproof/doesnt mildew
Easy to clean
Easy to get installed
With a little thinking and a little work it could look nice I think.

Again, just a suggestion!

what im wondering is your plans for the car. Dont take this as a shot but there are alot of people around here that are stripping their cars to nothing, doing all kinds of stuff that i would only think of doing to a race car, that never plan on racing or have never been to the track. Personally, my car is staying full interior and ill make it handle and make it fast. I rode in Jim Child's 968 race car -F stock- on the track at mid ohio last april. The car had a stock motor top to bottom with only exhaust and intake mods. Car had every suspension upgrade known to man w/ some wicked wide 18" race wheels and slicks. As we sat in the paddock waiting to leave out i noticed it still had a full interior. He said F-stock you can only pull what is in the way basically. I told him about my n/a that had working A/C that i raced and he told me "this A/C still works" Amazing! OUt on the track that car was crazy fast, one of the fastest out there. Everyone commented on how fast "that" guy is and all this with a stock motor and full interior w/ a/c. That right there made me not worry too much about stripping my interior and loosing too much weight.

I originally stripped my interior because of a water leak that caused serious mildew, Then i had everything out and decided to go with black. Maybe not the best choice ever but i did it and Im happy to follow through in the best way I can. I didnt take out A/C or anything like that... just the sound deadening stuff and the rear seat.

I went ahead and put in a rollbar to mount harnesses also, and im still shopping for some seats right now.

Sir, step away from the line-x, the vapors are killing your brain cells!

That reminds me, does that stuff stink after installation?

Maybe I could look into other options! Heres some other Ideas I have

Paper machet interior - Easy to mold, lightweight, paintable, sandable!
Drywall interior - Easy to come by, labor is cheap, could just use house paint!
Velcro interior - stick on installation, and I can just stick on whatever interior trim accents I happen to think are cool that day!

That was a joke.

Easy to sculpt.
