Default Performace mods for automatics?

I was wondering what kind of modifications you can use with an automatic 944? About the only thing I can think of at the moment is a performace chip. Let me know what you guys can think of.

keep overdrive on at all times

all the performance mods for a manual will work for an automatic, (intake, exhaust, chip, head porting, yada yada)

its just that you wont have the delivery of a manual is all.

There are products out there to make the driveline of a manual stronger. I dont think they exist for the automatic, and i dont think the automatic is robust enough for much more hp than it has.

ever wonder why there is no automatic S2 or 951? IIRC when turbos came out as the rage in the early/mid 80s the journalists all said an automatic was better with a turbo because it keeps the revs in the powerband. Yet no 951 with an automatic.

however, if you are going to increase the hp of your na motor and want a transmission that can handle it, i bet you can get a slushbox from a 968 for next to nothing.

Throttle cam can be put on also, it just needs a very small portion grined or cut off.

Also the 944 automatic has no overdrive!

Can't you just time your shifts and feather the clutch to keep the revs in range? Seems silly for journalists to say an auto can do something than a left foot cannot. Then again, it was the 80s. Everyone was retarded back then, even my parents. I mean, just look at what they named me.

Slushbox? Is that an insult? I can't tell. The 968 6-speed is pretty hearty, if the pinion bearing issue has been resolved. If you're talking about the tiptronic, then I don't know about those. I've never heard of one breaking. I would love to have a tip, but in a second car. I love automatic trannies way too much for a Rennlister, but not enough to get rid of my manual.

of course you can time anything. bottom line is the automatic turbos were testing faster than the manuals. i didnt write the articles. autos kept the motor spooled better than manuals. i think current road tests of the 997 turbo show the auto just a tick faster than the manual.

slushbox.... look it up. slushbox and manual are mutually exclusive terms.

Don't they make higher stall torque converters?

Carefully unbolt the driver's seat, with the driver in place, and swap it into a faster car.

LOL.

I guess it kind of makes sense about the auto turbos being faster, I wouldn't have figured that on my own though. OK, looked up slushbox:

Definition: A slang term for an automatic transmission. Ach so!

I would look into the stall speeds for vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions of this kind. If there is no aftermarket you may find certain models had higher stall speeds. If there are aftermarket converters available(unlikely) you should look into them...it will make a difference.
