Wiring diagram help
Ok so I'm reviewing the factory wiring diagram and need the secret decoder ring for the colors. I'm trying to troubleshoot a no start and no light condition since removing an aftermarket alarm (Viper). I've double checked where the alarm was spliced in and made sure the harness, where cut, was carefully soldered back together.
I have found two sets of mystery wires that might be related, the first set are under the dash and form a 2 wire pig tail (that has been cut) that comes off the ignition switch harness 1 green and 1 red w/tracer(forgot color) both are a smaller gauge.
Over in the passenger foot well the alarm was spliced to a wire pair, both brown w/yellow tracers that end together on a shared female connector, sort of like a small female spade connector over near the passenger door.
I've only got this weekend to get it running before I have surgery and am OOC for awhile. Any help greatly appreciated.
My best,
Mike

Most (all?) brown wires are ground -- the stripe color lets you trace back to what is being grounded. It looks to me like someone sliced into that blown/yellow wire set to pick up ground for something aftermarket.
On my aftermarket alarm, the primary DME/ignition power wire had been cut and was relayed inside the alarm for on/off control. It was a thick red wire with yellow stripe in the corner of the main fuse panel box. I had to remove my drivers seat and lay on my back looking up under where the fuse/relay is. There are a ton of wires under that box but you may want to take a look to make sure none have been spliced/cut, etc.

Everything that was cut and spliced under the relay board has been cleaned up and put back in order.
How do I read the colors on the factory wiring diagram? I understand how to follow the wires but can't figure out what the colors are supposed to be..

The factory diagrams in the service manuals have a color legend across the bottom of almost every page. If you don't see that, look at the very beginning of the '84 wiring diagram. There's a legend on the page defining the connector locations.

It would help if you added your 944 model and year to your signature; wiring diagrams are different for every year (and twice in 1985!)
The colors are abbreviations - the only trick is that they are German abbreviations:
SW = black (schwarz)
WS = white (weib)
RT = red (rot)
GN = green (grun)
GE = yellow (gelb)
GR = grey (grau)
BR = brown (braun)
BL = blue (blau)
LI = viloet (lila) (actually lilac or mauve)
So the brown with yellow stripe wire shows up on the diagram as BR/GE. Simple.
