The split seat cover does not attach to the seats. it attaches to the side "pillars" of the car behind/near where the pegs of the seat actually go. The side of the cargo cover has little hooks that slide into these pllars to hold it in place. Let me see if i can scrounge up a picture...

Hey hockeydude, how wide is the space where your cargo cover goes?
Reason I ask because a while back, I asked if the cargo cover from other cars (specifically, GM F-bodies - Camaro and Firebird from the 80's) might fit.
cocacolakid measured and said, "82-92 Camaro's will not fit. They are 55" wide" - the standard mount on the 944 is 48" wide.
I know that a lot of places can cut window shades down to size, though. You might have to rig something up for the ends - Hoss Ghoul pointed this out, as well as an attachment point (the Camaro/Firebird cargo cover attached to the glass hatch, rather than the back end of the car).
Kinda ghetto to do something like that, but if you can't find a cover for the split seat, might be your only option.

i have one on my 89 NA. it is not what you think. it is a rod/pipe. in the pipe is elastic string. at the end of the string are the two tabs. the cover is just a piece of cloth.
on the other end is another rod. the rod has two hooks attached to it with elastic string that hooks into two females attached to the hatch. when you open the hatch the cover comes up.
mine was apparently redone by the PO^2 and made out of cloth. there was never a retractor etc.
if you get some lightweight pipe you can make one. just fabricate females for the C pilar.

Hey Tom, could you please post some pics of yours up for me. I still have the female "donut-looking" mounts on the c-pilar, so i may fab one up. I just need a couple pics to help me out. THANKS!

I think I may want to try and fab up something along the lines of what you have... attaching the cargo cover shade to the C-pillar interiors at one end, and the hatch on the other.... so I can have the rear seats down, but still have the cargo cover over (to stop reflections on the hatch when I look through the rear view mirror, and so I don't have to unhook the cover to get at stuff.

I bought a replacement cover for my Ex-88 944 w/ split fold down rear seats. I can't seem to find the website now, but it was a cover that attatched by two plugs on either side going to the gromets in the hatch over the rear seats. Hooked onto the hatch pin surrounds. Made from nylon. Wish I could find the website!

the nylon part makes sense Andy. The PO told us when my brother was buying the car that the original deteriorated and he had this cloth one fabbed up.
