I live in Montreal and was thinking about driving my s2 year round. Thing is I drove it to my storage today in about 2-3 inches of snow and kept loosing the back when giving just a tad of gas. I have Pirelli snowsport 225/40/18 in the front and 265/35/18 in the back. I'm thinking the tires are way to wide for proper traction. Don't know how the lsd factors in. How long have you been driving your car in the winter and do you have any corrosion problems? They salt and gravel the roads like crazy up here. Thanks

This is a bit OT - but since my S2 has 286k kms - I'll pretend it's sorta related.
I drove my S2 year 'round ONCE. The salt was not hard on the galvinzed body - but played havoc with things like fuel and brake lines (both $$$ to replace) and calipers (with the SS and alum corroding and seizing pads etc). After a $2K total brake rebuild - the S2 won't come out in the snow ever again.
In additon - the car is terrible in the snow compared to my Celica GT4 or 330xi.

Andy - when my car grows up, it wants to be like yours! I just did the 196,000 mile oil change last week - so I'm a little over half-way there. I've got a lot of little things that need attention right now - but I'm still driving "Herbie" daily. Trying to get "Partial Eclipse" streetable in the next few weeks so I can get "Herbie" off the road during the salt season.

I read an article in European Car by a guy in the UK with a 1986 944 turbo with 500,000 miles on it. All original, save for a new clutch or two.

I agree with the other Canucks...too much salt up here, would wreak havoc on brake lines and calipers, etc, etc...that's why I drive a Mercury in the snow.
PS...we got 12 inches last night!

That's very cool. Your cylinders looked great BTW. It is very inspiring to hear of the results of proper maintenance on a daily-driven vehicle. I've always thought that, when properly taken care of, these motors wear very well.
