Default another possibly stupid question

a buddy of mine just recently got a 86 951,
began hearing constant whirring type noise in rear hatch area.
he told me that he found a SECOND fuel pump on the passenger rear side
only accessed from a compartment under his carpet area at the hatch area.
he said a reputable mechanic told him.
i am no porsche mech.,but all the manuals and pet programs i have accessed
have never shown a second fuel pump.
is my pal full of **** or is he right?
thanks,
rolf

The "second" fuel pump he is referring to is actually the fuel tank level sensor.

thanks for info.
if it goes bad,
can that affect engine performance to a great degree?
does it look very similar to the fuel pump?
thanks for help.

It has no affect on the engine at all. It's only function is to send a signal to the instrument cluster.
