Default Finally got a trans!!

Ok guys...after months and months I finally got an LSD unit for my turbo!!

Before I install it, I want to drain the fluids (check for any metal flakes of course). What kind of fluid should I use for the S2 LSD trans? While it's out....I thought I should replace the seals. Does anyone know of a kit I can buy to do this? That way I can put this thing in and not worry about it for a while.

call up paragon-products.com and get some LSD redline fluid and some seals- dan

Fingers crossed for no metal chunks . . .

Let me know if you need any help with the output seals. I wouldn't touch the input shaft seal, as it was dry as a bone.

Should I get the gasket set and the diff seals? I may be a complete idiot....but there look to be a ton of choices for the fluid. Which is the best?

I'm crossing my fingers too Jon! I think it'll be fine though. Can't wait to get the LSD in. The F-car guys were all at my place last weekend for a wine party. They said that although it's not a Ferrari....they're willing to share the track with us. I'll keep you in the loop with the schedule.

Unless you plan to open the trans up for maintenance work, only replace the two differential/output seals. Half the crap on the side of trans cases are from the CV joints anyway.

There is "some disassembly required" to replace the rear gear carrier cap assembly gasket and endcap seal, and the little shift fork detent caps seldom leak. The input shaft seal is rather difficult to remove and replace without pulling the gear carrier out of the case (pulling the input shaft out of the case). The diff side plate and gear carrier to case seal are a liquid/loctite type sealant, not a gasket. So unless those are leaking, do not break them apart.

Ok. Sounds like I should just do the 2 diff seals and drain/ replace the fluid.

I'm thinking of doing a short shift kit while I'm right there. Anybody have an opinion on that? Is my money better spent on a strut brace?

I would take a look at Lindsey's unit. I just picked one up, and it's one nice piece. Assuming the linkage on the trans is in decent shape, that shouldn't be the source of your slop.

Strut brace is highly debatable. If you're looking to get in a decent amount of track time, I'd think about putting that money toward a KISS oil cooler.
