S2 gearing versus turbo gearing
Hi,
I did some searching but the answers contradict one another. I have a feeling that an 86 turbo lsd tranny has the same gearing as an 89 S2 tranny in the first four gears but the turbo tranny 5th gear allows for higher top speed while the S2 has lower top speed but better accel. So the s2 has a lower (numerically higher) 5th gear. Is this right?

Actually all the gears are slightly different. The S and the 951 have exactly the same gear ratios 1-5 but different r&p ratios. The S2 has slightly different (not much) ratios in all the gears because of the higher revs and low end torque, with a similar yet slightly different r&p than an S

Incorrect - the S2 has the same ratios and gear part numbers as the Turbo and S for 1st-4th and reverse: 3.50 1st and Rev, 2.059 2nd, 1.40 3rd, and 1.034 4th.
Turbo and S have the 0.829 5th, the S2 has the 0.778 5th. S has the 3.889 R/P, S2 has a 3.875, and the Turbo has a 3.375.
Both the Turbo and S2 have a 6500 rpm redline, only the S has a higher 6800 rpm redline.
