Default fan relay? help please

Went out to the car this morning, and the car would not start. The batery was dead. Its because of the drivers side fan, that comes on by itself during the night, and continues to run until the morning draining the batery.
Is it a relay?
Could i unplug the one side and recharge the batery and run it like that untill i find the fix?

I think you could. I bought my car with non-working fans and did'nt even know it for about 1K miles. No temp problems at all (in April). If you run the air cond, it forces the other fan on so that might help. Your problem is probably the relay. It fixed my problem.

It could either be a stuck relay or a problem with the fan switch.

What year is your car? If you have an early car.. the two fan relays are a cheap part, if you have a late car (85.5+) its about $140... .

You can check this buy disconnecting the fan switch connector on the radiator (its under the upper radiator hose) when the fans are running and the car is shut off. Just be mindful you dont get a finger caught in the fans, i wouldnt worry about dismemberment but it will probably still hurt. If the fans turn off, its your fan switch ($15) or if they keep running.. its probably the relay.

I'm quite certain it's the fan thermoswitch on the radiator. My 83 did that the first month I had it, back in 1994.

I would also bet on the switch on the radiator. Cheap fix, although you'll have to drain or spill a bit of coolant. I've done this twice. The last time I just unsrewed the old one until it was just ready to come out. Then, as quickly as possible I popped it out and put in the new one. I only lost a few drops of coolant!
