I believe the 951 have a coating on the exhaust ports.

Then there's the 944S and S2 heads........

springs? valve size?

i only question the valve size because they are sold as n/a valves and turbo valves. according to the part numbers they are different. i think...

who know

Well, I know the exhaust valves on the turbo differ in that they are sodium-filled.

yeah thats what i was trying to remember.

the turbo head also has a special blinker fluid reservoir

Haha, thanks guys. How difficult would it be to convert a standard 2.5 to turbo using factory parts? I'm not looking for 400whp, just around 250 at the crank or so... I am mechanically skilled, just underinformed as far as 944s go. I don't even own one yet, just looking at the possibility. In fact, I just finished up swapping a 3.5 liter I-6 into my '84 BMW 325e, so really I shouldn't be looking for another car yet, but we all know how that goes!

Just search for the whole turbo deal. The whole process has been covered more than once.

So... has anyone ever tried improvising? Maybe starting with a 2.5 NA motor, some factory manifolds and downpipes, custom intercooler, megasquirt and custom charge pipes? Come on guys, it can't be that hard! I know guys who have turbocharged BMW M30s for dirt cheap and make well over 300whp at 11 or 12psi! I just can not believe that it could possibly be THAT EXPENSIVE to build a turbo system and make it work... You can turbo a Mazda Miata for $800 if you keep your eye out for ebay parts and make a few pipes!!!!!

If u are wanting to turbocharge a na motor yes you can cause my car was .

That's my plan. I'm installing MS over winter break to get it running N/A then add on the turbo setup. I like going against the population that says no...I'll prove them wrong I turbocharged a SOHC Ford Escort to have 220whp/280wtq on stock block and timing. Not to mention all the fab work that was needed. The 944 is a lot more of a bolt-on and tune. Hardest part is gonna be installing MS and tuning.

The hard part will be taking the pistons out and replacing them with low compression turbo pistons. Do a search as this subject has been beaten to death. By the time you are done with the conversion (done properly) I will be surprised if you don't spend $5k on parts alone with no labor.
