go for it butters I was 2 parts away from my 944 n/a being an n/a -t. Then I bought a 951 That being said you can do it just like any other cars (like 240sx etc) that do it on the cheap. It's been done ( SCULAR on the boards has done it reliably and a few others..) and it will be done on the n/a I sold my friend.
When I say on the cheap I mean just turboing THAT engine. Using the same ideas that most anyone but p-car owners do.. You don't NEEED the turbo intake mani, looks like even the 951 xover bolts to the stock n/a headers, get an oil cooled only turbo, you can do run oil lines easily even on an early car.. use stock 951 intercooler, pipes are easy to make.. MSD BTM for timing retard/advance (or something more advanced like emanage, tec, smt, etc that can also do fuel) etc. I'm sure you know what to do

I dont think anyone here thinks that it CANT be done. It has been done. but a lot of the time, not cheap.
Most of these threads just end up in people telling each other it would usually be cheaper just to buy a 951.
Of course it's possible, and if you love YOUR car enough to turbo it, then do it. I know I would be happy with a turbo in my 944... but the thought of doing all that work makes me tired

Yes, turbo-ing an E30 BMW (or an E36 M3 woo!) is more interesting because you can't just go buy a turbo version of those cars for a couple grand more than an NA. In the case of the E30 there is actually some room under the hood too. In the case of the 944, you can just buy a 944 turbo and have better brakes, better wheels, a transmission that won't e-splode, an intercooler with ducting, and all the fabrication is already done. Considering it's only a couple-three thousand more for a 951 and you get all those benefits (plus resale/insurance value) it's an easy choice.
Turbo-ing an NA makes sense when:
You have a race car chassis with a ton of money in it and want more power
Your mom won't let you buy a Turbo but you can mod the NA in your friend's dad's shed
You want more power but have a weird sentimental attachment to your NA, and $5K-$10K means nothing to you.

Go for it. Report back on how well it runs and how much you spent on it. Especially once you get to replace the tranny because you destroyed the ring and pinion, or stripped the 1st and 2nd gears off the input shaft.
Keep the nice 924s and buy a turbo, it'll be much better in all aspects.

Every time I think about taking my car a couple levels higher, I realize it would be better to buy another one and experiment than trash a nice car. To do otherwise could end in tragedy for sure.
