24 with an 87 951. I almost got an 84 944 when I was 17, but went with a Z31 then an FC before settling on the 951.

i'm 24 now, but was 16 when my dad bought our first 944 (zermatt on black 83 with 18xxx on the clock, now has 29xxx on it) - an 'investment'. i got hooked, and now i have two current, and one former. the first one i bought at 19 (85.5 faded guards red on black automatic... what a mistake - hence the former), then another at 20 (my sweet '84, gemini grey on tan/brown sunroof delete), and the newest one i bought on saturday (a bone stock zermatt on black 88 951S with 115k).

i consider myself young... i certainly feel young i've been blessed not to have wrecked any of them - in my younger days i had less self-control, but never did anything really stupid. i've had a few speeding tickets, i'll admit, and none of them were due to racing - only impatience.

i'd say a fair amount of 944 owners are young, being as how these cars are a bargain; they are a big commitment though if you plan to keep them for any length of time. i'm in it for the long haul with my 84 and, i hope with the 951 as well, these are fantastic cars and the fact that those from every age group and walk of life can enjoy these cars is a testament to the timelessness of their design.

porsches were made to be enjoyed, and thanks to communities like this they can be enjoyed like MIR... for 3x their intended life span???

ok, now i'm stretching
it's definitely bed time!

Or are you all middle aged men that cant afford 911's? jk jk
People wondered the same crap 9 years ago when I had my 87 924S at 17 years old. Holy crap I am old.

I was 20 when I got my first 951. 10 years and a Triumph 955i bike, modded 3000gt vr4 later I returned to a better place. Driving is fun again.

I came close to wrecking my Z due to a torrential downpour but I managed to keep all my sporty cars from damage. Autocross with insctruction days were a big help when I first started driving. Whenever I have kids that are old enough to drive I'll be sure they get some sort of instruction before handing them the keys.

i know, i really dont want to get back into that bull-puckey. needless to say you won't be seeing two red words under my user name unless something drastic happens (not holding my breath)

anyhow, i'm glad to be back... seeing as how i've got new motivation... shall i say - a boost in my interest?

I hope I dont have to sell mine when I go to college, if I do it will most likely be to my dad who has been looking at s2 cabriolet's lately after I let him drive my car a couple times. He needs an airport car right now because its the first time in his life that he doesnt own a sports car lol

When I got my 951 I was 19. Drove it for about 80 miles. 2 weeks later I ripped it apart and had it on jack-stands for around a year. Now I'm 21 driving around a badass 951 when I'm back at home from college.

Slightly off topic...
But a even better story is my first experience in a 944. I was probably 10 when my dad thought it would be a good idea for me to learn how to drive a manual. I wasnt the tallest kid for my age either. If I was to reach for the pedals I couldnt see over the steering wheel, but thankfully this 944 was preairbags so I could see through the steering wheel and sorta see what was in front of us. The car was his 85.5 Guards Red 944. He must have trusted me alot since he had a fresh cup of coffee in hand during the entire time in the fairly empty parking lot. One slightly less full cup of coffee later, a pair of coffee stainded pants and a couple of stalls I was set on my course to own a car just like it.

damn, i too am getting old.... and to reminisce my youth on my 420th post, heh. 29 creeps up fast young whippersnappers! when i was your age, *cough, hack* the coolest car I could get at 16 for $2000 was my 84 fiero.

Hell of a car to learn to drive in, mid-engine, fiberglass, stickshift, in michigan. I tend to think I'm better for it. But at least I can drink legally when I'm telling my racing stories and wrenching
