Default NEED HELP

Well i think ive narrowed down the problem for my s2 being sluggish. I looked at the hall sender connection right behind and towards the bottom of the distributor, and it was all cracked up and wires exposed, so i know i have to get another one of those. The question is, what is it connected too? The wire it is connected too seems to run down to the bottom of the engine. Anyone have any idea what this is, it looks to be in bad shape aswell and would need replacing. Thanks!
