968 Weltmeister chip
Hey guys,
My PO (who is a nice guy as far as I got to know him) has emailed me offering a weltmeister chip for $100 shipped. What's the retail price on these chips, and how good are they? How does it compare to other chips? TIA.

Had one in my previous 968 and like the autothority I have now better. A lot of guys have had a lot of luck w/ the promax chip, which is cheaper than what the PO is offering you. I would go promax before weltmeister....Good luck!

I believe you would be better off with either a Promax or a RSBarn chip (I have 2 of these) if you want to switch. Both Andrew from Promax and Pete at RSBarn are good guys and will take care of you although I believe both chips are about $150. Don't be concerned that Promax is out of England quick shipping and very responsive.

Arash, I'd take pass on it at $100 -- for $139, you can get the RS Barn chip, which seems to be marginally better: http://www.rsbarn.com/968software.html. I know flash has done some dyno work on that chip, so at least there is some documentations backing up claims.

First he wanted $140, and I told him Promax chips are cheaper. I read a thread on 968forums about RacerX vs Promax, and the conclusion I came to after reading that info was that the RacerX is the best, Welty the second best and Promax the third. How does the RS Barn chip fit in?
I don't care about shipping times or anything, in fact I'm not very motivated to get a chip. I just got offered one, and was wondering if I should go for it.
I'm happy with my car and how it is right now, it satisfies me and I won't trouble myself with an unquenchable thirst for more. Maybe if I have plans for at least another mod, I'll want a chip to enhance the instant power upgrade, but for now I only put 100 miles on my car every month so every time I get in it's like going from 5mph walking to 70mph Porsche power, and it's cool enough!
That said, every car could use a power upgrade, so I'm always lookin.

Weltmeister chips are outdated. Not worth any amount of money when you can get far more developed chips from Promax or RacerX or RSBarn.
I installed one of those promax superchips in my buddy kevin's 968. There was a definate and noticeable increase in power. Well worth it. I would buy one for my 968 if I did not have a 951 to dump money into.

Hmm, it seems I shouldn't get the Weltmeister chip. OK, so then which SHOULD i get? People are raving about Promax, RSBarn, RacerX, and Speed6. Who has tried more than one of these to see which is better? Where can I find info on a comparison? I remember reading that thread over on 968forums where Flash compared the Promax, something else, and stock, but I already knew that the promax chip was better than the stock chip.
You guys make it sound like the chip alone will have a great effect. I always thought I'd do some upgrades simultaneously so I could feel a huge increase all at once. Maybe I'll get a chip and just do some weight reduction, 'cause now I'm getting all excited.

As mentioned in a previous post Flash (flash968) has tried most everything for these cars, almost to the point of being obsessed ; he should have results to back up his claims. Try getting hold of him in the 968 forum.

I have a K & N, modded exhaust, and chip (along w/ a short shift kit, M030 suspension...the list goes on and on) and I would say the chip is the engine mod that I felt the most-I tried the promax and my autothority and really liked both-the engine is smoother and the flat spot around 4k rpm is picked up. Good luck!

The chip mod is really worth doing, it's not so much about the HP gained it's about the improved drivability. The car will drive like a different car below 4200 which is where it needs it. The Speed6 and RacerX are the same chip.
The RSBarn chip came out after that chip comparison was done and the person who conducted the test has switched to the RSBarn. From what I have seen and heard you would be happy with the RSBarn or the Promax chip. Since I don't race either of mine I didn't see the need for the RacerX's higher redline as max power is well below that.
Good luck,
Mark

Matt told me the chip will make the car feel like it has a little boost... That's what I've always thought about my car at 4k when the torque suddenly jumps. Maybe the PO left a nice chip in there and is trying to trick me to trade it..... I better pop the computer open and have a look-see.
