extremely technical question:

if by "used in microwave" you mean, you take your coffee breaks inside your microwave, then yes.
If you don't drink coffee (I don't either) then replace "coffee break" with "tea time".

The gold will arc, unless it's just paint.
Otherinteresting things to put in the microwave:
An entire package of peeps, unopened (be prepared to clean up)
A grape, sliced in half but still connected, sliced side up (be prepared for lightning)
Also, I think if you put instant coffee in a microwave and start it to run during the daylight savings time time-change, you just might punch a hole in the space-time continuum, so be warned

It has been a while since we have had a mug in the microwave GTG...who is in?
To answer your question, no. Do not put gold in the microwave. Gold is a great conductor and will give you a killer light show and crack the gold plating.
