Ok.. I got to pull three seperate engines. LONG STORY...
Anyway two are in driveways and one is in a garage.
Looking for pros and cons of pulling out the top vs bottom.
I have searched threads but I really would like to hear from people who have actually done both!

Two of the cars are manual 83's and one car is an auto 88.

P.s. One of the engines already has the head removed it that makes a huge difference. I could put it back on just to pull the darn thing..

I have done it both ways.To tell you the truth out the botom has always worked the best for me. there is much more room for the engine to come forward if you go down instead of up.

I have to do this twice also. I have a hoist so will probably drop out the bottom. If you go out through the top do you need to pull both the radiator and AC condensor to get enough clearance? Does a pull out the top require that the bellhousing/PP/ be removed first also? Just being able to leave that on the engine would get my vote for a bottom drop.

out the top is no fun. Even with a bare engine you have to tilt it and move it and tilt it again, etc. I did this on the parts car and with nothing in the bay but the engine, its not to bad, but if this was done on a running car, i think out the bottom would be better.

Done it 3 times out the bottom once out the top. I will always do it out the bottom as it is easier.

I've only done it out the bottom, but it was my first engine removal and I found it very easy FWIW.

I've done it both ways, I too give my vote for the bottom. I was worried that I'd have to jack the car way up in the air to make clearance, but I was able to do it with normal jack stands.

Bottom bottom bottom. If you need help dude hit my digits up. The last VA car I fixed was in F-burg, which happens to be the girlies.

even if you take the a/c and radiator out the crank pulleys hit the back of the nose panel.
