I have an 88 944 automagic...
I noticed a small dent pushing up in the hood and thought **** I left a tool under there....
After opening the hood I see the air box (looks stock) is hitting at the rear.
Anybody ever hear of this? Could the air box be for the wrong year or has something more sinister occured??
I will post pics tomorrow when there is light....

Maybe broken motor mount?

Make sure the bracket that connects the airbox to the drivers side strut tower is still attached. Is there any sign of a front end impact on your car? The airbox is tied to the front radiator support. Mine was pushed back a bit after i got hit in my front end.

UPdate....
I finally got around to working on this one.
After closer inspection I found that the crossmember has been crushed by a rock or curb impact and
had pushed the whole motor up a tiny bit.
The cross member and oil pan are shot.
When I bought the car they stated the oil pan had a hole in it and that is why the motor burned up.
I didn't expect the cross member to be so badly damaged.
The car is in excellent body and interior shape so I may try to save her.
Even though it is an automatic.
