How do you get $3500 for clutch and shocks? Clutch kit $525 Shocks $300 for konis
Even someone who cant repair it themself clutch labor is only 4hrs. 30mins. for shocks.
Clutch on a S2 is 1650 plus tax, on a turbo more. How much on a 968?

So 1800 for clutch is reasonable.
koni inserts for my S2 were 550 from paragon add 450 for labor (200 for alignment and 250 for someone to cut the struts and install the inserts) and alignment is 2800 total not 3500 sorry. How bout the other little things it probably needs like motor mounts etc?

Water pump and belts are about 1000 from a shop unless you use a rebuilt water pump.

Quibble over 500 if you want. I stand by my rough figures, and would pay more for a correct car from the getgo

A clutch job on a 968 is maybe a two hour job. The engineers got smart and put a access panel on the clutch housing so the clutch replacment is a sinch..

My 88 944 cost $2000 to have the water pump and everything else done, so that is actually cheap. Another two grand for clutch and tranny mounts, and another 1500 to have the fuel system replaced. Of course, this was all done by a shop since I am mechanically challenged. Those prices do seem to be in line.

Then the clutch job is less than $1000 on a 968.

There is a 20K car out there for 8500. Dang, if i was on the left coast I would be all over that car. I could probably buy it for 8000 and sell it for close to 20000.

i wonder why there are no people with good business sense out in cali. That thing should have been sold a dozen times already.

That statement scares me Nick!

I'm looking at upgrading to a 993 or 996 Cab soon and I definately want to get more than $5500 for my 130k mile cab. Please let's hope you just had bad luck with your cars because if not the market isn't going to be kind to us hoping to sell.

I'll give you $5600 for it Seriously, a $5500 cab is probably going to be trashed and need some heavy work.

If you want to buy a waterpumper Porsche, you better be turning your own wrenches. Because if you can afford a mechanic, you can afford payments for a cayman.

If anyone in norcal needs a socal rennlister to drive a car back up there for them, let me know. I'd love to drive your car and save your time. I bought mine for $9900 with 153k and the car was in near mint condition, only the driver seat bolster was messed up. Did the belts, wp, chain and fluid flush, and it's been smooth sailing. All that cost me about $800... $700 if you borrow the flywheel lock instead of buying it. Luckily the pinion bearing was done by the PO.

not even close to thrashed....look at my for sale posts, i had to pull one apart to sell it. Rock has that one..the other with a new clutch and less than 92k original sold near that too, so who ever gave you your information is incorrect. I have sold 3 s2 cabs and a nice 91 coupe in the last year and every one was apita to get rid of and it took a while just to give them away

Apparently you're the one misinformed. We're talking 968 prices, not 944s. 968 cabs do not sell for that little.

Price is dependent on condition, how the car's been maintained over the years, and mileage. Those cars that are in pristine condition will continue to bring premium prices (and perhaps more), especially the more scarce 968 6 speeds (and even 928s!). Those that are not taken care of reasonably will continue to depreciate.

There's a 944 in town for sale that's worn out and beat up in about every way you can think. He's hoping for a naive sucker to buy it at $2,500. If he gave it away, the buyer would never be able to get it up to snuff without spending many thousands more than what one could be had for in good condition. However, I guess there are probably a few parts left on it that could be parted out for something. I would't pay $500 for it. Not worth fixing up and too much hassle to part out. Shame. That's a car that really should be junked when it finally quits smoking down the road.

It's hard comparing S2 to 968. Performance wise, they are fairly comparable, but 968 commands a disproportionate premium over its S2 counterparts. In the high mileage land (where I like to lurk), a beaten 968 still commands twice the price from a beaten 944s2.
