i will be storing my 944 covered, in a heated garage. any things i should do throuoght the ohio winter here? I figure i should trickle charge the battery periodically, but how often should i start it up? (20w-50 oil) What else should i do?

I will probably take it off insurance for the harsher months in order to save some $$...

BTW: IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER WINTER QUESTIONS POST THEM HERE!

Thanks!

Poor a bottle of Stabil in the fuel tank, helps keep that fuel fresh over a long period of time.

I'm probably going with something like 10-40 for winter storage. My storage garage is not heated however. I'll second the Stabil in the gas suggestion.

I wouldn't start it at all unless you intend to run it until hot. In Ohio, there are generally just enough winter days with no snow, clear roads, and tolerable temps that I can take my 914 out 2-3 times a winter to give it a good, fast run, getting the engine nice and warm. If I can't run engine that long, I don't run it at all, because it'll just create condensation and unburned materials that will rust the exhaust, dilute the oil, foul the plugs, etc.

I just bring the car inside, cover it up under the blankets between my wife and I, then go to sleep.

It takes a lot of idling to get to operating temp, especially in cold weather, and you're still not really blowing out the combustion chambers like a good drive on the open road would. I know it's tempting to just start it once in a while, but I think most experts say you're best off to either store the car fully (as in, put Stabil in the tank and a trickle charger on the battery), or just drive it continously. Anything but letting it run for a few minutes now and then. Your car won't mind being ignored for 3 months and it'll start just fine in spring.

I'm looking forward to snow. It gives me paid days off of work.

I also love snow tires. They allow me to have fun passing H2s in the snow. I want to get some staticy vinyl letters for my back window that say "Trailrate this!" but people would probably view that as confrontational.

BB.
