I wouldn't spend too much, because 924s aren't worth much so if you plan on reselling you'll lose money.

Still, 924s are fun cars.

If the body is rust/rot free, I'd go for it. If the frame or body is damaged beyond a couple small dents or paint chips, it might not be worth it.

Default heck ya

I bought mine for $400 and it now runs and I am stripping the paint and redoing it. I love working on it, It is an easy car to fix. If you are getting it so that you can resell it for a profit, then it is not worth it. If you want to fix it up and have a really fun car to drive then go for it. I have a cap of $2000 to put into it and I could get that out of it. Enjoy your car it is worth it. If you have any questions let me know I will be more than happy to help you out. get a shop manuel (auto zone $18) and learn about the fuel sytem, it is worth it

you may be into the car for a lot more than you could have gotten something newer and nicer. you get what you pay for. tread lightly. but definitely look into it.

It certainly can be, as long as you're realistic about how much it'll cost and what you'll end up with. The best thing is to focus on making it mechanically solid; that's more rewarding, both in terms of learning about the car and driving. You can spend a lot of money on bodywork/paint, but still have a POS if it doesn't run well. It's hard to justify an expensive repaint on these cars. And the interior will never be great; no new replacement parts, just good used ones, and the plastic and such always breaks.

Either way, it's still an inexpensive ride - but not ever going to be a really fast car. Just make sure, dead nuts sure, there's no rust in the battery box area.

I'd think twice before starting to dump $$ into a 30 year old car "free" car. It could end up being more expensive than you think, & "Not running" condition has a lot of things that could be expensive. $5000 could get you a really nice 88' 944 NA in perfect running condition & hell, just looking at ebay, here's a 87' 3L S w/ a current bid of $1,200 & a buy it now for about $3K that looks pretty nice and is already running.

3L on Ebay (no knowledge of this person, just seeing what was there.)

I'd just be careful. It's easy to spend $$ on an old porsche pretty quick.

yeah im 16, I can barely afford to keep my 83' 944 running (and halfway decent shape)... Thats with like two mini jobs (lifegaurd and lawn mowing). I can't imagine trying to fix one up from something beat to crap. I suppose it depends on the shape its in. Also you need to think about gas prices and insurance (once you get it running and pass the inspection. Just have this mentality: Whatever can go wrong (everything) will go wrong, if not now, then when your out somewhere, don't ask me how I know. Im just fortunate that my dad worked on it for about ten years before I got my license, then it was my turn. They are very fun cars to drive, and its very rewarding fixing stuff on them. I say, if its at least in presentable condition, take it and work on it. If not, take it and just part the sucker, and start saving for a nice one.

after reading this post i say take it. take it to take apart and see how things work. maybe you will get it back together, maybe you wont. if you do, drive it a little bit. if you dont, have it hauled to the heap. you will have learned something along the way.

just dont sink $$ into it. good luck.

Good point Tom - he can take it apart to see how it works and then sell the parts on ebay - might even make a dollar or two......
