Question Shift lever taunts me...

Ok, dumb question- Is there a trick to getting the shift lever out of the plastic bushing at its base? The damned thing won't budge, and I'd really like to get the Lindsey short shifter installed...

I used a pair of pliers to grab onto the bushing and pop it off. I'm assuming you have a new bushing also, have fun getting the lever into the bushing...

So I'm basically going to have to replace the bushing too? I got the impression that it was a tossup as to whether you'd need to or not...

Will pulling the bushing like you mentioned break it (which seems likely)?

Ok, I'm a moron- just read the clark's garage bit on inspecting/replacing the shift lever and noticed that extra step where you unbolt the bushing housing. Oops.

Yeah, once you unbolt the shifter housing, it comes out the bottom real easy.
