Default occasional surging idle?

every so often my idle on my s2 will randomly start surging form regular idle speed down to about 500rpm, its quite annoying and i always think the car is going to stall but it never does? if i stay on the gas a bit and keep the revs up its fine. the problem usually goes away after i step on it a bit.. any thought?

I have the same problem also. I just did the all the vac lines and venturi delete and it helped a lot. Now, only once in a while, it does that. The idle was really rough before but it is pretty smooth now. Another thread talke about retracing the air flow sensor.

Mine did that. Vacuum leaks, ISV, O2 sensor all helped for me. TPS might also be the culprit.
ISV made the biggest difference, followed by O2 sensor. Still does it every so often, but very rarely now.
