Angry Failed smog........

ok, i took my 951 to get smogged a few weeks ago,

bad O2 sensor, and cat had just been re-installed.

rpm- 1544-

%CO2- 13.8
%O2- 0.7

HC-
Max- 133
Meas- 182

CO (%)
Max .82
Meas- .54

NO
Max- 1125
Meas- 1460

Failed, duh.

RPM- 2484

%CO2- 14.1
%O- 0.2

HC

MAX- 108
MEAS- 62

CO (%)

MAX- .62
MEAS- .19

NO

MAX- 955
MEAS- 952

so i barely passed the 25mph, and failed the 15 mph.

so i got my O2 sensor replaced because it was flatlining

and then i failed BOTH tests

RPM- 1545

%CO- 14.0
%O- 0.5

HC

MAX- 133
MEAS- 139

CO(%)

MAX- .82
MEAS- .40

NO

MAX- 1125
MEAS- 1244

Failed

RPM- 2483

%CO2- 14.3
%O2- 0.2

HC

MAX- 108
MEAS- 41

CO (%)

MAX- .62
MEAS- .17

NO

MAX- 955
MEAS- 1091

is it time for a new cat?

i'm getting about 240-250 miles out of the same gas that usually gets me 300 miles + (when i didnt have a cat installed)

I had very similar numbers to yours. I replaced my 02 sensor, spark plugs and vacuum lines and passed with fairly respectable numbers after that. Oh, I also used a fuel additive called "Guaranteed to Pass" from AutoZone ($7-8 IIRC).

The donation place I bought the car from did a prelim test and marked "gross polluter" on the windshield...and they said it needed a new cat. Turns out they were wrong. Way wrong.

yeah, but even then- i'm getting at *least* 50-60 miles per tank less than i was before.

that's got to be more than new plugs, and a bottle of GTP.

anyone have any good reccomendations for high flow cats?

Wow thats sucks. My car failed the first time then I replaced the o2 sensor and everything was perfect. Thats odd how it was worse after you replaced it.

Juan,

In March I pulled:

15mph
rpm 2363 / HC 48 / CO 0.37 / NO 413
25 mph
rpm 2404 / HC 62 / CO 0.51 / NO 433

After adding G2P (guaranteed to pass) to an 1/8 of a tank of prem, doing a 20 min 80+ run and leaving the engine running at a test only station, an with APE II chip.

My NA is busting my *****...

High NOx numbers are a result of running high cylinder temps...

Also, I called the California BAR during my smog BS and they said "a cat can bouce back" from the brink of death (from running pig rich). Maybe try running a few hundred miles or a few months and try again. Granted that's probably not possible for you...

Have you checked for vacuum leaks? (cracked vacuum lines, torn J boot, etc)

no vac leaks, car runs good.

i'm going on a run this weekend, hopefully a few hundred miles of full throttle fun and some seafoam will clean things out?

i tried finding G2P at Autozone, but couldnt.

i can afford to wait a few weeks, but not months.

i ran seafoam through the vac lines, and holy **** did it ever smoke. i almost want to do it again to see if i missed anything......

Move to South Dakota and never worry about passing emissions tests ever again.

Juan, search the cautions of seafoam hitting your turbo blades!

gp2 is a kragen item.

I'm tired of capitalizing for the same old stuff.

full throttle = running rich (slightly)

best bet is to cruise on the highway...when the car runs most lean.

I would almost bet money that if you run the G2P, and followed the directions explictely, you'd pass your retest. Though that's easy to say sitting comfortably in my chair

Kevin- i've run seafoam twice (once w/o cat, once with, the time with, smoked like a cheech and chong car), ran almost better than when i got it afterwards....

Did you use the vac line to the bottom of the TB?
