2.5 944 trackcar differences
#2
Well,
it ranges from alot to not much. It all depends on rules update/backdate.
In 944 spec where we can update/backdate to our hearts content and 84 or an 87 mostly personal preferences or what ever you can find.
Now if you have to run parts only from that model year then there are many little differences. Some favor the 84 and others favor the 87.
BTW... I have an 84 chassis with an 84 engine block 87 top end and engine management, 84 front suspension 86 rear suspension and 87 924S transmission.

Offset is one big thing... the early cars with their narrower offset use different rims than the later cars. Since only stock rims are allowed in my class, technically the early cars have a 'slight' advantage because the early wheels are lighter than the later phone dials. In the real world will it make a difference? I hope not, I have a late car For your purposes, it will affect your aftermarket wheel availability.
Like Joe said, lots of other little things. Late windshields are more expensive, or at least harder to get the non-antenna one as I've found out. Late cars have fuel lines running over the exhaust, while the early cars have it on the other side. Early cars have the fuse box inside underneath the dash, Late cars have it under the hood in front of the driver. I believe the injectors might be rated a touch higher too.
Lots of little details for sure.

really? then why do they specify years of suspension on the 944? I've been looking for coilovers and what not on paragon and it seems they group stuff by year....
so Anything suspension wise from a late car will fit on an early one?

I used the 87 top end and management from the early days when I swapped a complete low mile 87 924S motor in my 84. My 84 motor needed rebuild and my 87 924S motor had 47k miles on it. When I swapped I also pulled the engine harness and computer/AFM.
Then that motor spun a rod bearing and destroyed the block, but the head was good still. Vistuall it looke better than the head in my 84 so I used that with my 84 block. I kept the 87 engine managment parts at that time.
Now after skimming the rules it appears you can get any chassis 944 be able to pick and choose what parts you want to use. So I don't believe chassis is a big issue.

Well when it comes to shocks years mater as they use different mountings. However I can pull complete 88 suspension and fit it to my 84 chassis should I choose too. This means control arms, struts, t-bar carrier etc. The bare tub will take any of these parts.
