Default Need tip on deflating late model spare

Hey-

I had to use my spare and now I cannot get it to deflate. This is the kind with the second valve on the side opposite the inflation valve. I did a search and the only references I saw were for the type with the side by side valve.

There were some plastic pieces in a baggie with my lug key. Are these needed to deflate?

Thanks!

Let the air out.

Sorry, couldn't resist - I have used mine once - I just let the air out and it folded itself back up.

Brad,

If Sharky's suggestion doesn't work for you, get yourself a ratchet strap, as used to secure loads on trucks. Wrap it around the circumference of the spare and tighten it. Press the valve with a screw driver, tighten further, let more air out. Repeat until it's back to its original folded shape.

Hope that helps.

Phooey!

I was hoping that there was some "trick" rather than standing there holding the pin in on the inflation valve. I have my owners manual packed away and I was hoping the bits o'plastic would be some fancy valve release.

I think there is a secondary valve used to remove the air quickly. At least there was on on my 84 spare. I used that thing twice even after 20 years it worked great and deflated properly.

If you have to get a tool to remove the valve stem.

Yup mine had a secondary valve on it as well. But that did not finish the job enough, so I put a vacuum pump on it....that worked.

remove the valve core with a valve stem tool from your friendly local autoparts store. Its also a good idea to keep on in the car for people who park too close to you or give door dings.

With the valve core removed, put a strap on it and push the air out.
