I wanted to upgrade my rims from the 16 inch rims to 18 inch rims...... What is the maximum width I can put on the front and the back before the tire hits the fender? I would like the back to be alittle wider...... Any help would be appreciated.

i ran 235/ 265 18's easily- could prob go up to 265/ 315 if you get the right offsets.

A lot depends on the year/model...........and/or if you have the stock front springs or have went to 2.5" coil-overs. Could you specify?

When you go to wheels larger than 16", you would also want to upgrade to the 968 caster blocks on the front.

Opps.... Its a 87 944 N/A.... everything is original so far. I am in the process of upgrading it, so any help would be great.

To explain the Avatar, I am very turned on by the fact that the 944 has a conversion kit that would allow me to put a chevy small block in the 944 easily. This is the logo I intend to have made once the car is finished.

I was looking to get HRE rims..... These are the sizes they have.....

18' Widths: 7.5 , 8.0 , 8.5 , 9.0 , 9.5 , 10.0 , all the way up to 13.0

Yes, I run 8's on the front and 9's on the back with no problem so you should be fine.

Wider than that. I am running 16X8 front and 16X9 rear. I have enough room to put the 9's up front if I could find a second set to throw on the rear. 9's on the front and 10's on the back is not very radical, really. If anything, 18X7 and 18X8 sounds a little small to me................

Won't you need a really stiff suspension to run 18"s

I'm running 8's in front and (I believe) 9.5's in the rear, and the only problem I've discovered is that the large front wheels 'track' a lot, meaning they follow the road a lot more than a 'normal' car. This could be an issue if you spend a lot of time on uneven roads.

I agree with the others: if youre going to go to the trouble/expense of buying 18" wheels, definitely go wider than 7s and 8s - go with at least 8s and 9s.

Does your car have the upgraded (968 or Kokeln or Elephant) caster blocks on the front a-arms? That really helps with getting rid of some of the tramlining. The stock 944/951 caster blocks just don't cut it when you go to larger rubber in the front. Although even with the better caster blocks, some tramlining with the larger wheels is to be expected.
