Default 944 Turbo Convertible?

Did Porsche ever make a turbo convertible back in 86? This one looks like a very tastefully done mod than an original factory car.

Wasn't 86 the year they released he 951 stateside? I am pretty sure that is aftermarket. Very clean and tasteful job I might add.

That's a conversion, the windsheild is not raked like the later factory cabs, and the trunk and side windows are different than the later factory version.

There are some pics of early 944 cab studies where they have Fuchs wheels on them, they may have been from ASC. I know there are a couple pics in my Excellence was Expected set. Maybe this is one of those cars? I guess it could be remotely possible..............

According to the current owner, this is an '86 951 coupe that was converted to a convertible by a body shop down in SoCal someplace. If you look at the trunk carefully, the angle is a little different from factory convertibles.

Personally, I prefer a 944s2 cab with an engine swap -- the factory convertible beefened up the body for greater structural integrity.

I would be inclined to agree with that.

Although..........from a personal aesthetics preference standpoint........that cab does look damn good with the Fuchs on it. I think a black 86 951 Cab, with Fuch 8's on the front and 9's on the back, would be awesome.

i have a cab and the only thing that tipped me off was the fact that it seems to have back seats WITH headrest hump in the middle. Cabs dont have that hump in the middle, they are 2 seperate sides that fold down so you can reach into the truck. The aftermarket conversion prolly didnt have those because they just used the back seat headrest from a coupe. Thats my 2 cents

I might be wrong on this, but ive seen some true 951 cabs, and they dont have airbags. However my s2/951 does. Do the 951 cabs not come factory with airbags?

Maybe it's an S2 and someone stuck a turbo badge on it? I toy with creating my idea of a 944 "Carrera." (minor suspension mods, AC delete, keep it lighter and simpler than the average 44) The next owner could think it's real.

Still doesn't answer how Fuchs got on there, assuming they aren't replicas made for late offset, or that the car isn't a chopped early offset car...

It's not an S2 with a turbo badge. It's an aftermarket conversion of an '86 951 to soft top. I know because I asked the current owner.
