I'm looking online for an idle stabilizer valve for an 83.

I've tried and had no luck from:

Do you have a part number Kieth? It should be 944 606 215 00 and is the same through 85.1. I might have one in the shed. One engine is an 83 the other an 86 but both are off the engines. Here's one at Pelican Parts last item on page: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/..._pg1.htm#item4

Sunset Imports. When others have said "nahh, you can't get that," Sunset tracked things down in Germany.

Or if you don't need new, check http://www.easypor.com/ (Alameda/Oakland) or http://www.partsheaven.com/ (Hayward). Easy tends to have better prices so I would check there first.

It's strange that the PET and Pelican part numbers don't match for trhis early part? The early cars had an 'auxillary air valve' for cold idle control only; the later cars had an 'idle stabilization valve' that controlled both hot and cold idle. I've had a problem with the 83 for awhile where the idle will range and sometimes die after warmup and I assume this is the problem. For the price of that part ($200+) I thinking I might bypass it completely seeing how I live in a warmer climate. Has anyone ever done this on an early car or is there a way to clean it?

I've clened the ICV on BMw's before. Is the early type similar where you gently rock the pistongn back and forth as you soak it. I've always used choke cleaner because I thought carb cleaner was too strong for the electronics. Do you mean the type of really strong carb cleaner you dip parts into in a basket and let them soak or the kind in a spray can?

Thanks

Thanks for the help guys!

The car has been having a problem with fluctuating idle between 800 and 1200 RPM when it gets to normal operating temperature and its just been getting down right annoying. I took it out on saturday evening and it ran fine! I think it had a bad case of automobile PMS. I'll probably take it off and clean it next weekend.

Anyone have instructions for removing the ISV WITHOUT removing the intake manifold? I remember seeing a thread a while back that said it was possible.
