Default Head-unit guru's, little help?

will this work in my car (see sig)? I have a friend (good friend, not a cheapskate) who is selling the unit/faceplate with no harness. If I buy a harness, will this work with no amps and no electrical fires?
Im only asking because my local shop has been a little... sloppy, recently.
link with specs

PS. I tried to find some helpful info while searching, but came up dry (or I couldnt understand it. I speak english, not watts and amps.

Thanks
Sebastian

so I all would have to do is disconnect the stock head unit, and plug the existing wires in to the new one?
I only see 1 connection that will work on both, this is the back of the new one.
The only harness I see is for the 12V power. I think the preamps will match, but what about the other 4 connections?

the new one

this is the old one

and misc wires.

Thanks
Seb

In theory you can wire any head unit into your car. The only question is how much work it will be.

i put one in mine, and for some reason i dont have a constant- im not a newb at this either, so im just gonna take it to a sound shop and let them mess with it. and along with no constant, there was a problem with an antenna booster. crutchfield sells a harness thats pretty cheap. i have an 86 and i think i have to shave down the cage a bit, it rides on the damn cubby, when you take out the oe cage youll see what i mean. your setup might be different being 2 years newer than mine.

You need to go out to crutchfield and buy the reverse harness for the factory wires. It will come with directions that ID what all the wires are. Then it is just a matter of hooking up the reverse harness to the harness off your headunit. Usually there is a map on top of the headunit showing what each wire in the harness does but if not you may have to download that.

If you don't feel real comfortable with it I would get the appropriate harnesses and then take it to a stereo shop - probably wouldn't be too much for them to wire it for you.
