Default Twightlight Zone swaybars

Well.. things got wierd today. After my swaybar bushing crapped out and I discovered it was the wrong bushing, I decided it was time to go ahead and replace them. Got all four today, took the bar out, brackets off...
And wouldn't you know it? The bushings for an '88 924S, part numbers 477-411-053J (inner) and 171-411-314-A (outer) do not fit the brackets on my swaybar....but the 951 bushings will...
So, I took it down to my trusted local shop and had them take a look at it all. They're just as confused as I am about why a 23mm bar had larger bushings...and... The option for the sways is not on my tag, either.

Looks stock. Smells stock. Not stock?

Now, I know the two previous owners were not like-minded people. They didn't track the car, didn't Autocross, and were not otherwise "peformance minded" people.

So..what the ??
